5.8-Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Islamabad, KP and Other Parts of Pakistan
A moderate earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale jolted Islamabad on Monday, with tremors reported across Swat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Hunza in Gilgit-Baltistan, prompting concern among residents. According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC), the earthquake originated at a shallow depth of 10 kilometres, increasing its felt intensity across multiple regions.
Meanwhile, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) recorded the quake at 5.9 magnitude, with a depth of 35 kilometres, locating it around 50 kilometres north-northwest of Barishal. Authorities identified the epicentre near Sonmiani in Balochistan, approximately 87 kilometres from Karachi. No immediate reports of casualties or major damage were reported, though assessments are ongoing.
