Pakistani Passports to Now Feature Mother’s Name Alongside Father’s
The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP) has announced the launch of new Pakistani passports featuring the mother’s name alongside the father’s, marking a major step toward inclusivity and modernization in Pakistan’s identification system.
According to the Ministry of Interior, the updated passports will come with advanced security features designed to strengthen identity verification and prevent document forgery. The new passport design also introduces visa pages showcasing Pakistan’s historical landmarks and cultural heritage from all provinces, including iconic sites from Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Officials confirmed that the printing of the new passport booklets has already begun after receiving official approval. The DGIP highlighted that these updates reflect Pakistan’s commitment to digital transformation, gender inclusion, and global standards in travel documentation.
Apart from these enhancements, the department clarified that the existing passport data structure and general layout design will remain unchanged.
This update is being widely welcomed as a progressive initiative, reinforcing Pakistan’s efforts toward equal representation and modernized identity documentation.
