The Ministry of Finance Pakistan has decided to release salaries and pensions of federal employees in advance ahead of Eid al-Adha 2026, in order to facilitate government workers and pensioners before the upcoming holidays.

According to official sources, arrangements have been finalized for the early disbursement of May 2026 salaries and pensions, which are expected to be paid on May 22. The move comes in view of the expected Eid holidays, allowing employees to manage their expenses conveniently ahead of the festival.

Officials stated that payments will be processed under the Federal Government Receipts and Payments Rules 2025, while the Controller General of Accounts Pakistan has been directed to ensure timely release of funds. The Ministry has also instructed all relevant departments to implement the decision without delay.

Meanwhile, SUPARCO has indicated that Eid-ul-Adha 2026 in Pakistan is likely to fall on Wednesday, May 27, based on astronomical calculations. The agency noted a strong possibility of sighting the Dhul Hijjah moon on May 17, which would mark the beginning of the Islamic month.

According to SUPARCO’s assessment, the moon for Dhul Hijjah 1447 AH will be born at 1:01am on May 17, and by sunset its age will reach approximately 18 hours and 30 minutes, a duration generally considered sufficient for visibility. The agency added that in coastal areas of Pakistan, the time difference between sunset and moonset will be around 60 minutes, further increasing the chances of crescent visibility.

Officials explained that for clear moon sighting, the moon’s age typically needs to be close to 20 hours, though current conditions indicate a high likelihood of visibility. The early release of salaries and pensions is expected to provide financial relief to thousands of government employees and retirees ahead of the religious festival.
