PMD Predicts Rain and Thunderstorms in Parts of Sindh
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and dust storms at isolated locations in Sindh on June 1, offering some relief after days of extreme heat across the province.
According to the Met Office, weather conditions driven by intense heat and westerly wind systems affecting northern parts of Pakistan may trigger thunderstorms in districts including Qambar Shahdadkot, Dadu, Mirpurkhas, and Tharparkar.
Despite the rain forecast, the PMD warned that heatwave conditions are expected to persist across most parts of Sindh, with extremely high temperatures continuing to grip several districts. Maximum temperatures in Jacobabad, Kashmore, Khairpur, Qambar Shahdadkot, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Naushahro Feroze are forecast to range between 47°C and 50°C.
Similarly, areas including Tharparkar, Badin, Hyderabad, Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Jamshoro, and Sanghar are likely to experience temperatures between 44°C and 47°C, indicating continued severe weather conditions.
Meanwhile, Karachi is expected to remain hot and humid over the next three days, with daytime temperatures ranging between 35°C and 37°C. Humidity levels may rise to around 80 percent in the morning and 70 percent in the evening, while south-westerly sea breezes are expected to remain active, providing slight relief.
The ongoing heatwave has already led to record-breaking temperatures in some areas. Recently, Dadu recorded a new 10-year high temperature, with readings 4.5°C above the May average, while Larkana and Jacobabad touched 50.5°C, highlighting the شدت of the current heat spell.
Authorities have advised residents to take precautionary measures, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak hours, and stay hydrated as extreme weather conditions continue across the region.
