Renowned Pakistani PhysicianDr. Abdul Bari Khan Wins 2026 Eisenhower Impact Award
Dr. Abdul Bari Khan, Pakistani physician, founder, and president of The Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN), has been selected as the recipient of the 2026 James and Carol Hovey Eisenhower Fellowships Impact Award, recognizing his outstanding contribution to healthcare and his role in building one of the world’s largest free healthcare networks.
As the only Pakistani recipient of this year’s prestigious award, Dr. Khan will receive the honor along with a $10,000 prize at a ceremony scheduled for November 11 at Liberty View in Philadelphia. The award recognizes an Eisenhower Fellow or group of fellows whose work has created exceptional and lasting impact within a field or community.
Dr. Khan became an Eisenhower Fellow in 2004 and was selected for the 2026 Impact Award from more than 45 nominations and entries by a panel comprising Eisenhower Fellowships trustees, fellows, and external experts. His recognition reflects an extraordinary journey that began 18 years ago with a 150-bed hospital in Karachi and has since evolved into a nationwide healthcare network.
Under his leadership, IHHN has expanded to include 12 hospitals, four blood centers, three rehabilitation centers, and more than 100 primary healthcare facilities. Over the past year, the network conducted more than 67,000 surgeries, recorded over 214,000 hospital admissions, facilitated approximately 2.9 million outpatient visits, and treated around 1.4 million emergency cases.
The network has also supported more than 16,000 deliveries, provided mental health services to over 212,000 people, and conducted malaria screenings for approximately 6.3 million individuals, demonstrating the extensive reach of its healthcare mission across Pakistan.
The 2026 Eisenhower Fellowships Impact Award represents international recognition of Dr. Abdul Bari Khan’s longstanding commitment to making quality healthcare accessible to people regardless of their ability to pay, while highlighting the remarkable scale and impact of IHHN’s mission.
