Imran Khan Receives Fourth Eye Treatment Dose, Says PIMS
Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), received his fourth intravitreal injection as part of ongoing treatment for his eye condition at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), according to an official statement issued on Tuesday. He was brought to the hospital for a follow-up examination, where ophthalmologists assessed his condition and found him clinically stable. An optical coherence tomography scan conducted prior to the procedure indicated noticeable clinical improvement.
According to the statement, the injection was administered after obtaining informed consent and under standard monitoring protocols in the operation theatre. The procedure was carried out under microscopic guidance while adhering to all necessary precautionary measures. Hospital officials described it as a day-care surgery, adding that Imran Khan remained vitally stable before, during, and after the procedure. He was later discharged with instructions for further care, follow-up consultations, and necessary documentation.
Meanwhile, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan confirmed the development in a post on X, stating that Imran Khan had been taken to PIMS for an eye injection and medical check-up. He reiterated the party’s stance that Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, should be shifted to a hospital for treatment under the supervision of their personal doctors, with access to family members. He emphasized that this demand was a fundamental right and noted that it had been repeatedly raised by the party.
Imran Khan’s eye treatment began earlier this year when he was first taken to PIMS in late January for a minor procedure. Subsequently, doctors confirmed that he was suffering from right central retinal vein occlusion and initiated treatment through anti-VEGF intravitreal injections. Over the following months, he received multiple doses, with medical reports indicating gradual improvement in his condition. A medical board later reported that his right eye vision improved from 6/36 to 6/9, while his left eye maintained normal vision with the help of glasses.
Separately, Bushra Bibi also underwent medical evaluation after experiencing vision-related issues, including blurred vision and flashes. She was diagnosed with posterior vitreous detachment, along with myopia and astigmatism, and was prescribed medication and corrective glasses. She later underwent eye surgery on April 16.
Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi are currently incarcerated at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi following their conviction in the Toshakhana-II case in December 2025, in which they were sentenced to 17 years in prison. The case pertains to allegations of unlawfully retaining a Bulgari jewellery set gifted during an official visit to Saudi Arabia. Imran Khan has been in custody since August 2023 and also faces multiple ongoing cases, including charges under the Anti-Terrorism Act related to the events of May 9, 2023.
