Eligibility Criteria

  1. PhD Qualification: Must have been awarded a PhD within four calendar years of the application deadline (for 2027 applications, PhD must have been awarded after January 2023)
  2. Research Experience: Up to four years of postdoctoral research experience
  3. Host Faculty: Must identify up to two KAUST faculty members whose research aligns with the proposed project (Host PI support is required for full proposal stage)
  4. Residency: Must be willing to relocate to KAUST and satisfy all Saudi Arabian residency requirements
  5. Nationality: Open to all nationalities; female applicants are strongly encouraged to apply


Application Process and Deadlines

The KAUST Global Fellowship 2027 follows a two-stage application process:

Stage 1: Concept Note Submission

  • Opening Date: September 1, 2026
  • Closing Date: October 1, 2026
  • No Host PI letter required at this stage; simply identify up to two potential faculty hosts

Stage 2: Full Proposal (By Invitation Only)

  • Submission Period: November 15, 2026 – January 15, 2027
  • Only applicants who receive Host PI support will be invited to submit full proposals

  • Research Proposal (using provided template)
  • Up to two first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals (one mandatory, one optional)
